Vision

CERAP's vision is to become a nationally recognized hub for ethical, sustainable, transformative, and innovative community-engaged research (CEnR) that benefits societies.

Mission

CERAP's mission is to build capacity and infrastructure for ethical, sustainable, transformative, and innovative CEnR at Penn State and within communities.

We provide resources and support through training, funding, and opportunities that bring faculty and communities together to strengthen partnerships, build lasting relationships, and advance research that benefits society and helps communities prosper.

Core Values

  • We believe community-engaged research should be co-created, which exists along a continuum.
  • Recognize everyone has expertise: There should be a bi-directional flow of knowledge and expertise between community-university partners.
  • Foster equitable and bi-directional partnerships: Partners have unique strengths, resources, and contributions.
  • Maintain shared decision-making: We recognize and attend to power differentials and dynamics, and we promote responsibility and accountability for our decisions, actions, and consequences.
  • Promote cultural sensitivity and humility: We will foster understanding and cultural responsiveness to build authentic, sustainable community-university relationships.
  • Steward financial consciousness: Support for CEnR should be conscious and intentional and aligned with community and university partner needs.
